Purpose of the Center

The aims of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Center for Aging Studies Application and Research are as follows:

      1) To conduct effective research on the concepts of aging, getting older, and advanced age, which have gained importance globally and nationally, in accordance with scientific ethical rules, and to use the information derived from these studies in the creation of quality applied service models.

      2) To create a consultation platform with interdisciplinary, non-governmental organizations, public institutions, and organization managers to meet the needs and expectations that come with advanced age.

     3) To ensure aging with knowledge and to build an active, meaningful, and open-to-development period of old age.

     4) To ensure that necessary measures are taken for elderly individuals to lead an innovative, lifelong learning, and independent life.

     5) To organize writing collections, symposiums, colloquiums, workshops, talks, and similar scientific meetings for the sharing of theoretical knowledge.

     6) To ensure the production of campaigns and volunteer-based projects to create awareness about problems, risks, and situations that frequently affect the lives of the elderly.

     7) To prevent the stigmatization and negative attitudes of young people towards the elderly and to develop intergenerational solidarity.

     8) To ensure that elderly individuals receive gerontological assessment and counseling with personalized guidance, thereby improving their quality of life.

     9) To provide training and ensure that professional caregivers, family members, and other actors receive consultancy services from expert academicians in the field.

     10) To ensure the representation of the elderly in the public, social, and scientific world.

     11) To propose to the Rectorate the preparation of cooperation protocols with public institutions and organizations for the construction of elderly-friendly cities with home arrangements that will lighten the burden of the elderly and an effective accessibility network.

     12) To work on establishing a clear and rational service production phase in the field of aging by developing a service design model that can be used in principle in every type of social service and target group, independent of the target group of the service.

     13) To work in cooperation with hospitals, elderly care institutions, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, Nutrition and Dietetics, nursing, educational sciences, and similar relevant parties with the approval of the Rectorate to create a personalized care plan based on the gerontological analysis of the reasons and needs for dependency of elderly individuals in need of care, considering public benefit, and to make it available for public use.

     14) To establish and maintain an effective cooperation network with international organizations and universities; thereby following good practice examples of global current developments in care science and advanced age.

     15) To take necessary measures and develop policies for building a stable and sustainable, beneficial, and elderly-focused advanced age period that is worthy of human dignity in all bio-psycho-social areas.

     16) To create awareness about problems, potential health issues, and risks affecting the lives of the elderly, and to engage in preventive activities and initiatives.

     17) To identify health problems related to aging or potential anatomical disorders that the elderly may encounter, to develop preventive activities, and to provide elderly care training to patient relatives and care professionals.
